Love Bug Headbands

The kids were bored today so my 8 year old got on Sprout Online herself to try and find craft ideas. She found these Love Bug Boppers and made them all by herself! She used a headband, pipe cleaners, and cut hearts. I thought they turned out pretty cute. Here are the instructions on Sprout Online.

Teriyaki Chicken Freezer Meal

Yesterday I made Teriyaki Chicken in the crock pot. My friend Alycia shared this recipe with me and it turned out great! This recipe is pretty easy and also makes a great freezer meal.

You need 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast, 1 can of pineapple (any kind), and 1 cup of Teriyaki sauce.

You put the chicken in the crock pot then next pour the sauce over it. Next put the pineapple over it including the juice. I used pineapple that was simple to take out because I knew we would not eat it, but if you want the pineapple for more than just flavor you could try crushed.

I also made a freezer meal out of this one. I did another one with the exact same items dumped into a Ziplock freezer bag. It is ready to just thaw out and throw in the crock pot on another day.

This chicken turned out really good! I made some brown rice to put it over for a healthy dinner. My daughter said I should try mashed potatoes next time which would be good too! This one is one anyone can make and it is also frugal.

Cheerio Treats with Peanut Butter

Today I made Cheerio treats with Peanut Butter. They were great! As you can tell from the picture, I used a generic brand that I had at home already and they tasted just as good. I got this recipe from Kathie Cooks. You will need the following items:
• 1 c. sugar
• 1 c. corn syrup
• 1 c. creamy peanut butter
• 1 t. vanilla
• 5 c. Cheerios
First you cook the sugar and corn syrup together in a large pan. When it comes to a boil, you let it cook 1 more minute. I kept stirring it most of the time.

When it is done, take it off the burner and add in the vanilla and peanut butter. Stir it well. The recipe calls for 5 cups of cheerios, but I just poured them in and stirred until well coated adding more as needed.
These turned out great! They are really sticky but they taste great. You could also make them in a pan and cut out squares. Another idea is to try different kinds of cereal instead of the Cheerios. Enjoy!

Homemade Maraca

Tracy of Cruising with Coupons in North Central Oklahoma made some homemade maracas for her daycare last week and I wanted to share them with you. Here is how she did it:

I used an empty ketchup bottle, some Discount School Supply Bio-Color paint, and Mod Podge to make a maraca. I taped the lid on with blue duct tape. I'm not sure if plain tempera paint would work, but acrylic paint would. I painted it, let the paint dry, then covered it with Mod Podge to seal it. After it dried, I put some rice inside (you could use anything: beans, pennies, etc.), put the lid on, and taped it shut.

This looks like a lot of fun for the kids! Here is a picture of the homemade maraca.

Church Project from the Girls

This project was not a Pinterest one, but actually one my oldest daughter learned at school. I gave the girls straws, pipe cleaners, and scissors and they made something. They came up with a church and it even has a cross on it. I thought it was cute so I wanted to share!

Glow in the Dark Mountain Dew is a Hoax!

Recently a pin was going around on Pinterest about glow in the dark Mountain Dew. It sounded really simple so the kids and I tried it. It was simply baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and mountain dew. Maybe I am crazy because I fell for it. I watched an online video and assumed that it would work. This is a hoax! After trying it, I went online to several places and found where it is a hoax and they used a glow stick to make it glow.

It is on Snopes too!

Edible Cookie Dough

Okay last night I had to try this recipe for edible cookie dough. It was amazing! Darn you Pinterest you are bad for my waist line! I found this recipe on Bakers Fun Foods.

Here are the ingredients:

3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup milk
1 cup flour
Pinch salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Do you notice that it doesn't call for any eggs? Yes we all have to admit we have ate cookie dough with raw eggs, but you aren't supposed to do it.

Simply mix the brown sugar and butter, then add in the vanilla and milk stir again, then add in the rest of the ingredients and stir it up. Put it in the fridge to get cool for about 20 minutes and enjoy! It was amazing!!!

Magnetic Makeup Organizer

Here is another fun project that my friend did she found on Pinterest. It is a cookie sheet and she put simple magnets on the back of her makeup. It is now hanging on the wall to organize all of her makeup. You could also just use this lying on your cabinet and then hide it away if you were having guests over. Great idea!
